On Saturday April 19, 2008 I had the pleasure of attending the ECO FEST on the Kendall Hall Lawn. The warm spring day was filled with music, hippies and ecology. Kids were running around seeing the different locations from Nor Cal Waste Management, Venders and to the local KCSC radio station; all there to show the people of the ecological and environmental impacts of human activity here on planet earth.

Music filled the air as different vendors, companies and awareness groups were at the ECO FEST to bring awareness to the people of Chico about the environmental and ecological impacts of humans here on earth. Nor Cal waste management had a display on several techniques and uses that they are practicing so that less waste is going into the landfills. RARE had an exhibit where they were showing some of the different ways where one man’s trash is another man’s treasure; showing the different uses of seemingly useless ‘rubbish’. Vendors and merchants alike where at the event displaying their ‘ecologically’ friendly products that were for sale, one such product that caught my eye was earrings made out of beer bottle caps.
This event enlightened me to the different uses of items that I once thought of as trash. There are many companies out there that are taking these items and making them so that they are ecologically friendly and are not adding to the landfills. Nor Cal Waste Management should be commended for their efforts in bringing a more sustainable company and trying to lessen the amounts that are going into our landfills.
I have learned a great deal from this cultural event, it has brought to my attention that we are all equally liable for the actions that we partake on our planet. The best thing for our planet is to make environmentally consciousness a necessity. This will help elongate our times here on earth and how long we can sustain our life styles. It does not take much effort to help lessen our ecological footprint here on earth and I believe that after attending this event that I am one of the people, here to help lessen our footprint here on earth.
